Got this from my fren's blog... its veri interesting.. haha..
I was talking with my friend today. And we came to this topic. We realised that as our society progresses with time, people's names got weirder and weirder.During our grandparent's time, where people were generally less educated and children were in abundances, most people had very simple names. Parents would name their children after animals or according to their order of birth - Tan Ah Gow, Wong Ah Yat.
As the society progress, parents supplemented their children with English names as the education level increased. Common English names were utilized, and our society saw an influx of John, Mary, and Cindy at one point of time.
Recently, people begin to yield for uniqueness and some started associating their name to anything under the sun. We begin meeting people named Sky, Ice, Apple, etc.
Weird but still acceptable, then we recalled this singer named Fish Leong. We hope she won't marry any man with the surname Chow, because if she does, she'll be Fish Chow (fish porridge).
So we wondered what names will our next generation be adopting. Here are some of our speculations:
Names after mobile phones - Nokia Neo, Samsung Soh Names after famous brands - Coke Chong, Microsoft Mah Names after cartoon characters - Nemo Ng, Sherk Song Names after IT products - Pentium Phua, Linux Leong Names after expressways - PIE Peh, CTE Chen Names after planets - Saturn Soh, Mars Mok
Lame, but it kept us entertained nevertheless. And the list goes on...
